In Bochum last week, quick action was needed: Following severe storms, the 48-kilogram metal ball on the steeple of Melanchthon Church was in danger of falling. The Bochum Fire Department arrived with more than 20 firefighters to defuse the dangerous situation—but several attempts to secure the sphere initially failed due to a lack of reach

It was only after deploying a 72-meter truck-mounted aerial platform from the Essen branch of the rental partner GERKEN provided the solution with its GL 72 G. Using the Ruthmann STEIGER® T 720 aerial work platform, the fire department was finally able to reach the sphere, secure it, and bring it safely to the ground. After about eight hours, the operation was successfully completed.

This incident clearly demonstrates the importance of large truck-mounted aerial work platforms in disaster response and rescue operations—especially when height, reach, and precision are critical.
